Sun opens first 3D printer studio in Dubai

Dubai, May 30, 2011

Sun Innovations, Russia's largest UV printers and inks manufacturer, teamed up with UAE-based PRO TECHnology to launch the first production studio offering services of the world’s first 3D printer in Dubai.

The new studio located on Sheikh Zayed road will offer printing services from the first-of-its-kind 3D Neo UV-Led printer, which incorporates state-of the-art Russian nano technology.

This new form of printing technology can print directly on almost any material including ceramic, glass, wood, canvas, textiles, mirrors, ceilings, mobile phones, laptops as well as water surfaces.

Vladimir Kozhevnikov, Russian Commercial Counsellor, and Farida Kamber Al Awadhi, president, Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), UAE opened the 'Sun Studio' on Sunday night.

Speaking at the launch, the company said the ‘Sun Studio’ will target Dh25 million ($6.8 million) in revenue within first year of operations.

'We are confident to reach around Dh300,000 to Dh400,000 of revenue per month initially and increase to more than a million dirhams thereafter,' said Vladislav Mirchev, founder of Sun Innovations.

According to him, the opening of the studio signals the entry of 3D printing technology into the Middle East region, which will greatly benefit companies, organizations and individuals.

'After extensive market research on possible locations in Middle East, we finally chose Dubai as the first city to launch the studio in the region, which has already made its mark as an established regional hub for tourism, real estate and business,' Mirchev added.

With organizations today more aware of carbon footprint they leave in the environment and with most having strong Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, Sun Innovations aims to promote its printers by getting the message across that ‘Today’s wastage is tomorrow’s shortage’.

According to Sun Innovations, the Neo UV Led printer possess key eco-friendly features like easy mobility with its built-in wheels and also operates with very low power consumption, as pointed out by the first few businesses to have invested in the printer.

Another major feature that sets this printer apart is its use of environmental friendly UV-curable ink, which does not emit harmful odors and elements like traditional solvent ink does.

PRO TECHnology, the master franchiser for Sun Studio, is currently looking into the potential of expanding into other emirates and neighbouring countries in the Mena region, said a senior official.

'Our collaboration with Sun Innovations is a true evolution of our relationship in the highly competitive UAE market, where this printer is being offered and sold as a key tool for those in the field of interior decoration, construction, signage and other design related segments,' Jamal Maraqa, CEO and managing director, PRO TECHnology.

'This cutting-edge technology offered by Sun Innovations is the only printer doing 3D printing in the world and is perfect for numerous applications on different types of materials and in seven different colours,' Maraqa noted.

'Currently there are 13 studios offering such printing services in Russia, one in France as well as another one in Turkey,' he added.

Sun Studio, said Maraqa, aims to attract the likes of interior decorators, architects, painters and construction companies as they can highly benefit from utilizing the services offered without purchasing the printer itself.

'The new studio is being packaged as a prototype for investors who are interested in setting up similar ventures across the region, with the company offering them the franchise option and all the techniques to guarantee the success of the project,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
