UK school to host event management course

Dubai, May 23, 2011

Edinburgh Napier University Business School, a leading institution in the UK, is staging a three-day executive management programme in Festival and Event Management in Dubai this month.

The programme is being organised by the Edinburgh Napier's Institute for Festivals, Events and Tourism (EIFET) on the sidelines of The Middle East Event Show, which runs from May 31 to June 2.

The programme will be led by Dr Jane Ali-Knight, director of Edinburgh Institute: Festivals, Events and Tourism, and Paul Gudgin, a former director of world’s largest arts festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with over 20 years experience in festival management.

The programme is aimed at helping event managers in the UAE to enhance their skill-set and contribute to the ongoing development of the events industry in the region.

With major sport events in the UAE such as Etihad Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Dubai World Cup, alongside cultural events such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi Film Festivals, the events industry is a key growth area for the region’s economy, placing emphasis on the need to develop professionals in the art and science of event management.

“Cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have recognised the power of festivals and events to increase brand awareness and put their destinations on the world stage”, said Ali-Knight.

"Edinburgh Napier’s EIFET is excited to be bringing its programme to the region, helping to ‘up-skill’ the local population and further professionalise the festival and events industry here."

"Over 400 people have been through the programme in Edinburgh and we are also delivering in other growing events destinations such as Hong Kong for the first time in June," she noted.

Richard Brook, exhibition director for The Middle East Event Show, said the increasing portfolio of exciting events and festivals being developed in the UAE has placed an increased demand on skilled and creative work forces to manage them.

The $1,500 registration fee for the Management Programme in Festival and Event Management includes three days tuition, all course materials and catering, with a ten per cent group discount for bookings of three or more.

“Being the only event in the region solely dedicated to the events industry, The Middle East Event Show is the ideal platform for EIFET to deliver their Executive Course in Event Management,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
