Bahrain protests fizzle out
Manama, March 26, 2011
Some protests and marches took place in several areas in Bahrain on Friday in direct contravention of the State of National Safety, the Interior Ministry said last night.
Security officers intervened to maintain order and security. In Ma’ameer, a group started attacking police officers, who fired tear gas to disperse them.
The emergency services operation centre later received a call for an ambulance for Isa Mohammed Ali, a 71-yearold from Ma’ameer, who died yesterday.
A forensic examination showed no evidence that the man died of suffocation from tear gas, contrary to claims by some TV channels, websites and political societies.
A further autopsy to establish the cause of death was offered to his family, but was refused, the ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, ambassadors of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have backed recent measures taken by Bahrain to safeguard national security and stability, hailing the leadership’s stance as strong and sound.
In a meeting with a National Unity Gathering delegation, they said any disputes should be resolved through diplomatic and peaceful means at a dialogue table away from violence.
Gathering president Dr Abdullatif Al Mahmood stressed Bahrain’s reputation as a beacon of tolerance and hospitality, describing any attack on peaceful residents and foreigners as an attack on citizens, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.-TradeArabia News Service
