Last of UAE troops arrive in Bahrain
Manama, March 19, 2011
The last batch of UAE troops to be deployed in Bahrain arrived on Friday. They will join their GCC Peninsula Shield counterparts already deployed to maintain order and security in the Kingdom.
The UAE's participation is a noble and honourable stance stemming from the principles of common destiny and co-operation bonding Bahrain and the UAE in all fields, especially defence.
The GCC states' resolve to help the kingdom overcome the current situation comes amid the regretful incidents that have, over the past weeks, disrupted security, terrorised citizens and residents, brought economic development to a standstill and posed a serious threat, not only to Bahrain but also to the GCC region as a whole.
The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) called upon citizens and residents to welcome the friendly Peninsula Shield troops and co-operate with them fully.
Meanwhile, a Qatari military official said Qatari troops are part of the GCC forces deployed in Bahrain.
"The duty of the Qatari troops participating in the Peninsula Shield force is to contribute towards restoring order and security" in Bahrain, Qatar News Agency quoted Colonel Abdullah Al Hajri as saying.
"As a Qatari force we are receiving our orders from the head of the Peninsula Shield force. There are no Qatari forces outside the Peninsula Shield in Bahrain," Col Al Hajri said.-TradeArabia News Service
