Shift seen in wedding plan requests

Dubai, March 10, 2011

Brides are becoming more adventurous when preparing for their big day, while bridegrooms now like to have more involvement in the arrangements, according to a leading UAE wedding planner.

Heba Rumhein, events director at Atlantis, The Palm will represent the resort at The Bride Show Dubai, taking place at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 30 to April 2.

“We definitely find that each couple wants their event to be unique and stand out from other weddings they have attended,” said Rumhein, who more than seven years experience in the wedding industry and is still surprised by unusual requests from couples eager to make their wedding different.

“Each year, I meet with more and more couples that are willing to pay a bit extra or to use a little more creativity to create a bigger bang on their special day.”

Despite the high stakes involved, she and her team are keen to undertake even the most challenging requests, she said.

Last year during an engagement event, she even played air traffic controller to coordinate a team of tuxedo-clad parachute jumpers who leapt out of a helicopter and landed on a heart-shaped pad to deliver an engagement ring, she added.

The perception gained from movies like Bride Wars implies that women are the ones pushing for extravagance, but Rumhein said grooms are increasingly involved in the planning process and equally as interested in giving their wedding a unique flavour. – TradeArabia News Service
