RAK launches code of conduct for govt staff

Ras Al Khaimah, February 24, 2011

The Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) has launched a code of professional conduct, which will regulate professional behaviour, activities and career decisions of RAK government employees.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi also inaugurated the `electronic complaints system’ which will allow government departments to receive complaints electronically, in order to follow up the work progress in local departments and institutions.

The new initiatives were announced during the annual Sheikh Saqr programme for government excellence award function held at the RAK Medical and Health Sciences University.

Sheikh Saud said that raising administrative efficiency and fostering a culture of excellence were vital for achieving the development goals of the emirate.

He noted that government sector excellence held the key to improved delivery of the institutional mandate and efficient provisioning of services to the people.

Sheikh Saud also called for enhanced partnerships between various government entities and other organisations towards achieving excellence and institutional development.

The RAK Chamber of Commerce and Industry was presented with the award for distinguished government department as part of the Ras Al Khaimah Government Quality Award 2010.

The award for the best director general was bagged by Dr Abdul Rahman Al Shayeb Al Naqbi, the former director general of the RAK Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The code of professional conduct would create obligations for each government employee to comply with certain ethical standards,” said Dr Mohammed Abdul Latif, director of the Sheikh Saqr Program for Government Excellence (SSPGE).

“The electronic complaint system is meant to enable the public to send complaints dealing with services provided by government departments through an electronic gateway,” he added.

Dr Naceur Jabnoun, senior consultant at the SSPGE, said: “The average score of government departments in RAK has been 378, which is the second best in the country, after Dubai.”

He said that SSPGE will add two new categories for the 2011 awards, namely best department in IT implementation and best federal department in the Emirate. – TradeArabia News Service
