Yemen to deploy cargo screening vans

Massachusetts (US), December 27, 2010

American Science and Engineering (AS&E), a top supplier of X-ray detection solutions, has received an order from Yemen Customs for deployment of its Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) with an exercisable option for two additional ZBV systems.

The Z Backscatter Van is a mobile security inspection system designed to screen vehicles and cargo containers for security threats and contraband.

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E’s Z Backscatter Van is the number one selling non-intrusive mobile inspection system on the market, with more than 520 sold to date, said a AS&E statement.

The company's best selling ZBV systems will help Yemen Customs screen cargo and vehicles for explosive threats and contraband and also fight terrorism at seaports and land border crossings, it added.

“We commend the security officials at Yemen Customs for taking steps to increase security measures through the deployment of advanced detection technology,” said Anthony R. Fabiano, president and CEO.

"Terror threats pose a constant challenge towards securing seaports and borders. With the ZBV system’s exceptional versatility and detection capability, it is an ideal tool to screen trucks and vehicles for explosive threats, contraband and manifest verification," he remarked.

"Its varied operating modes provide maximum maneuverability and flexibility for multiple applications, including port and border, checkpoint and high-threat facility security," he added.

The ZBV system is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van.

It is used by government agencies, border checkpoints, and customs officials throughout the world to detect threats and contraband hidden in vehicles and cargo containers — providing optimum security.-TradeArabia News Service
