Bahrain farm expo all set to open
Manama, November 23, 2010
Visitors to the Bahrain Animal Production Show 2010 (BAPS), which is all set to start tomorrow, will have a unique opportunity to see a variety of animals.
Lipizzaner horses have already arrived from the US in addition to Jersey cows owned by Al Murooj Dairy Farm in Bahrain.
The farm, owned by Shaikha Noora bint Salman Al Khalifa, was established in 1980 when the first cattle arrived in Bahrain from the UK.
The Jersey breed is renowned for high quality and efficient milk production and has thrived in Bahrain, said organisers.
'Shaikha Noora has brought an exceptional group of Jersey cattle from her dairy farm in Bahrain, which will be involved in the competitions and operetta,' said UK-based independent livestock adviser Nigel Hollick.
'These beautiful cows will also be on show in the dedicated petting area for all to see.'
Meanwhile, winners of a 'Wildlife of Bahrain' photography competition held as part of BAPS have been announced.
Al Bayan School student Reem Khalil Ebrahim Mohsen won first and second prize for the student category and Indian School student Amiya Chadramouli won third prize.
In the adult category, first prize was won by Ideal Project Link Trading employee Binoy Balakrishnan, St Christopher's School staff member Tasneem Al Sharqi came second and Ideal Project Link Trading employee Krishna Das was third.
The professional category was won by George Matthew and second and third prizes were awarded to Manfred Erber.
Contestants were judged by a panel including Basim Al Khan from Yaquby Stores, professional photographer Alexander John, Khalid Juman from Pico International Bahrain and Ahmad Almadani from Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry.
The top 30 images, 10 from each category, will be showcased in an exhibition at the show.
The winners will receive cameras, memory cards and pods in an awards ceremony tomorrow.
The competition was set up in conjunction with Yaquby Stores and The Camera Shop.
BAPS official opening ceremony will be held tomorrow for VIPs, while the show will be opened at the Bahrain International Endurance Village, Sakhir, from Thursday to Saturday for visitors with free entrance for all.-TradeArabia News Service
