Bahrain’s security forces foil car bombs plan
Manama, September 15, 2010
Bahrain's security forces have arrested two men for planning a string of 10 car bombings which could have caused massive loss of life at sensitive areas over the Eid holiday, said top officials.
They were on the verge of launching the attacks, using remote-controlled explosive devices powerful enough to cause devastating loss of life and damage to property, said the sources.
Police arrested alleged ring-leaders Sami Mirza Ahmed Mushaima and Ahmed Abdulla Sha'aban Al Beladi, both of Sanabis, last Wednesday.
The men are accused of planning car bombings, in a terrorist attack that aimed to destabilise Bahrain, spark chaos, terrorise innocent people and sabotage public and private property.
The suspects created a bomb-making factory in an agricultural area near Jidhafs, using manuals smuggled from abroad on how to make remote-controlled explosive devices, said the sources.
Details were also discovered of the types of cars to be stolen and used for the bombings, along with 10 targets.
Forensic experts recreated the devices in an experiment which showed they were capable of hurling debris across a radius of 150 metres and 100 metres high, which would have caused massive loss of life and damage to property, said sources.
They said Sami Mushaima led a subversive group in the Sanabis area, which was part of the terror network uncovered and smashed during recent security operations. He is accused of buying the supplies and tools for the attacks and distributing them amongst the subversive group.
The plot was allegedly funded in instalments by suspects Hassan Mushaima and Mohammed Habib Al Saffaf (also known as Mohammed Habib Al Mugdad).
Sami Mushaima and Al Beladi have been referred to the Public Prosecution, said the sources.
They said the campaign against terror would continue to foil any evil attempt to undermine homeland stability and threaten people's lives. – TradeArabia News Service
