Bahrain blocks Islamic society website

Manama, September 4, 2010

Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority has blocked Al Wefaq Islamic Society’s website for violating rules and regulations.

Press and Publications director-general Dr Abdulla Yateem said Al Wefaq should lead by example in terms of respect and implementation of laws.

“It has MPs whose duties are to enact laws and ensure their enforcement, not to encourage others to violate them,” he said.

Bahrain’s laws governing publications and websites are advanced and do not contradict the legislation implemented in developed countries or international conventions, Dr Yateem said.

While the authority supports “responsible” freedom guaranteed by the constitution and the law within the framework of His Majesty King Hamad’s reform project, it will not spare any effort to take legal action against violating parties, he said. – TradeArabia News Service
