Saudi urged to stop deporting Somalis
Geneva, July 31, 2010
The UN refugee agency has called on Saudi Arabia to halt expulsions of Somalis to Mogadishu, rebuking the oil-rich kingdom for deporting 2,000 in the past two months to the war-torn capital.
"Given the deadly violence in Mogadishu, UNHCR is urging the Saudi authorities to refrain from future deportations on humanitarian grounds," Melissa Fleming, spokeswoman of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told a news briefing. – Reuters
