Big Apple Circus set for Abu Dhabi debut
Abu Dhabi, July 14, 2010
New York’s award-winning Big Apple Circus is all set to make its Middle East debut as part of this year’s Summer in Abu Dhabi family festival.
Gravity-defying trapeze artists, hysterical clowns and awe-inspiring acrobats are just some of the headline performers featuring in the show.
Running from July 23 to August 3 at the Abu Dhabi Hall at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), the Big Apple Circus has been billed as “nothing short of spectacular” by acclaimed social website WhomYouKNow.com.
Providing comic relief for the award-winning show is Le Clown Gordoon, widely regarded as a pioneer of ‘modern clownery’. Gordoon has performed across the globe with Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and at Walt Disney World Resorts.
Part of the show are the Flying Poemas, a quartet of trapeze artists from Australia, Mexico and Argentina, whose daring acts have enthralled audiences at Las Vegas’ famed ‘Circus Circus Hotel’ for years. They are famous for their triple summersault.
Joining the Flying Poemas is the acrobatic Espana troupe, whose performances on a 10 metre high spinning double caged Ferris wheel caught the imaginations of millions worldwide and they are complemented by Hungary’s Gentleman Juggler, who holds a Guinness World Record for his precision displays, a statement said.
“With a stellar cast, the Big Apple Circus will be unlike anything we’ve seen before in Abu Dhabi. Boasting a combination of traditional circus amusement infused with a modern twist, it will be an experience for the whole family,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, head – Major Events Division, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which organises Summer in Abu Dhabi.-TradeArabia News Service
