Healthier dietary habits urged
Riyadh, December 21, 2009
The practice of healthier dietary habits was called for during an event held recently in Riyadh, which highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle and getting a better understanding of the foods that make up our daily diet.
Dr Mona Sanan, consultant for Al Rabie Saudi Food Company, gave a lecture and led a discussion that focused on adopting healthy diets and how to maintain a healthier lifestyle at the event held at the King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital.
According to her, many consumers today are not fully aware of several nutritional facts that come with today’s food products - resulting in wrong food choices and an imbalanced diet.
“Maintaining a healthy diet is sometimes easier said than done,” Dr Sanan said.
“It is tempting to turn to less healthy food choices because it is either easy to prepare or it satisfies a craving. Moreover, taking time to buy the ingredients for a healthy meal sometimes comes last on our list,” she added.
“However, people should know that it is not hard to make simple changes to improve your diet. Reading about and understanding basic nutrition facts can help you choose a healthier diet and avoid the risk of obesity, or health problems such as diabetes or heart ailments as you grow older,” she explained.
Following a healthy lifestyle, maintaining proper body weight, indulging in select sporting activities, and avoiding smoking and minimizing caffeine intake, can contribute greatly to good health, said a statement. – TradeArabia News Service
