Singapore, November 24, 2009

Singapore-based Hyflux, a leading water treatment firm, said its subsidiary Hydrochem has clinched a S$95 million ($68.4 million) contract for the design and supply of a desalination facility in Oman.

The Salalah Independent Water and Power Project, a joint venture between Sembcorp Industries and the Oman Investment Corporation, is Hyflux's first desalination contract in the Sultanate.

The desalination facility, which will have an estimated capacity of about 68,000 cubic metres per day, is expected to be completed within 22 months, said a statement from Hyflux.

The contract was awarded by a wholly-owned subsidiary of China's Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation, which has been appointed the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.-TradeArabia News Service
