UK studio to open world's largest drive-in

London, October 15, 2009

UK-based Pinewood Studios is taking the concept of big-screen entertainment to a different level, opening what it says is “the world's largest cinema screen” onsite.

The studio – home to the 007 Stage – said it has converted its outdoor water filming facility into a cinema screen 73.1 metres (240 feet) wide by 18.3 metres (60 feet) high.

It will operate a drive-in and showcase a series of movies that Pinewood played a role in creating.

Movies unspooling will start with “The Omen'' and “The Shining'' this Halloween. Other films to be offered include “The Bourne Ultimatum,'' “2001: A Space Odyssey,'' “Mamma Mia!'' and “Superman.''

The ticket price reflects the event aspect of the screenings, with the public expected to cough up 55 pounds ($88) per car for the VIP parking and service package, or 35 pounds ($56) per car for standard tickets.

All tickets are limited to four persons per car, Pinewood said. – Reuters
