Al Samadi to open first café in UAE

Dubai, August 12, 2009

Al Samadi Sweets and Café, the 137-year-old confectionary brand, will open its first café in the UAE on September 1.

The café, located in The Boulevard in Downtown Burj Dubai, will offer a wide range of traditional Arabic sweets and pastries, a variety of hot and cold mezze, sandwiches and salads, all freshly prepared and made to order.

Founded in Beirut in 1872, the popular confectionary brand opened its first retail outlet in the UAE in 1982, and now has shops in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

The Downtown Burj Dubai outlet will be the first time UAE diners have been given the opportunity to enjoy Al Samadi’s famed delicacies, as well as a wider range of products, in the comfort of their new brasserie-style cafés.

“We are planning to open the retail area of the café to coincide with the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan so that people can treat themselves to their favourite selection of Al Samadi sweets prior to the official launch of the café on the 1st September,” said Daniel G During, managing partner of Thomas Klein International, the Dubai-based consultancy responsible for the new Al Samadi concept.

“Once the café is open we will also be offering all our customers a special Ramadan offer of one complimentary meal when a table of four or more people dine with us,” added Damien Rizzi, operations manager of Al Samadi Sweets and Café.

The new Al Samadi Sweets and Café will carry a traditional French and Lebanese turn of the century café look and feel.

Inspired by traditional café Ahwat Ezzez in Gemayze,  St Germain cafes in Paris and the turn of the century Patisserie Boulangerie of Parisian neighbourhoods, the new café will feature rich displays of more than 40 varieties of the well-know Al Samadi Arabic sweets, pastries and chocolates.

The café will have a capacity to seat 50 people indoors, and an additional 50 people outdoors on the terrace in a casual yet sophisticated environment.

“The café’s warm and classic interior will definitely appeal to the entire UAE community, and we are hoping to attract all types of guests, whether they’re familiar with Arabic confectionary or not,” said During.

“We will also continue to focus on retaining the authentic heritage and existing values of Al Samadi Sweets within the new cafes, as the company is already well established in the UAE for its quality products."

"The service element of the restaurant is of paramount importance, and we will continuously strive to produce the finest quality traditional Lebanese sweets using the freshest natural ingredients,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
