Dubai Holding wins MSF marathon

Dubai, June 8, 2009

A Dubai Holding team secured the team trophy in the recently held sixth annual charity Vertical Marathon, at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai.

Dubai Holding, launched in 2004, aims to consolidate the various large-scale infrastructure and investment projects in Dubai, as well as to identify opportunities to develop future major projects.

The winning team of four, led by Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad bin Byat, climbed 52 floors and 1,334 steps, of the office tower, in a time of 12 minutes and 28 seconds.

A second Dubai Holding team was runners-up in the team competition, completing the marathon in 14 minutes and 02 seconds. Dubai Holding was the most represented organisation in the competition with five teams entered.

The group’s participation in the Vertical Marathon was the latest initiative under Dubai Holding’s corporate wellness programme, one of the first corporate initiatives in the region that seeks to encourage physical activity among its employees and tackle the rising menace of obesity.

The Vertical Marathon was organised by the Big Green Apple gym in the Boulevard at Jumeirah Emirates Towers to benefit Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), an international medical and humanitarian aid organization with the support of the Red Crescent Society.

The event, which saw 185 people take part, raised more than Dh161,375 ($44,000) for MSF. – TradeArabia News Service
