Mobision to showcase live TV over mobile
Beirut, May 20, 2009
Mobision, part of the Communication Entertainment Technologies Group (CET), and sister company to Iraqi Alsumaria TV, will demonstrate its digital live TV-over-mobile at an upcoming major telecom summit.
The 11th Arab International Telecom Development Summit for Arab States (Arabcom) will be held in Beirut on May 28 and 29.
Mobision’s innovative business solution is dedicated to the multicasting of live video over connected and unconnected handheld devices.
The service is to be commercially launched in Iraq towards the end of May and features the world’s largest bouquet of DVB-H (digital video broadcasting – handheld) channels. Mobision is already broadcasting in several major Iraqi cities to a variety of certified handheld devices.
Mobision’s unique system was developed by its sister company Entertainment to Mobile (E2M). Established in Lebanon in 2005, E2M is a recognised leader in software development and system integration for telecom operators and TV broadcasting companies.
This comprehensive system allows for the video broadcast network to be deployed within months. One of the unique features of this system is that it readily allows for integration with either the GSM operator, or the broadcaster.
“Management of subscriptions is processed independently of all members of the value chain thereby giving the video network operator the highest hand and the ability to effectively gear consumer costs for market penetration and dominance,” said Wadih Cordahi, Mobision’s business development manager.
Cordahi will be on hand at Arabcom to explain the explosive growth and revenue potentials of this unique business model and its contribution to the industry’s expansion.
DVB-H is a standard that has been approved by the European Telecommunication Standards Industry (ETSI) as the broadcasting standard of the future. Most European countries have already switched to DVB.
Roger Khater, director of technical affairs, explained: “Unlike 3G or streaming technologies, using a DVB-H phone from major handset manufacturers can deliver up to 4 - 5 hours of viewing as opposed to traditional 3G which funnels battery power in an hour.”
Mobision will deliver affordable digital live television to compatible handheld devices throughout Iraq in its entirety by the end of 2009, a report said. – TradeArabia News Service
