Manama, May 7, 2009
Diyar Al Muharraq, one of Bahrain’s largest mixed-use master-planned developments, undertook a cleanup of the Dry Dock beach at Al Hidd recently.
The program, held in collaboration with Muharraq Municipality, Ministry of Education, Gulf City Cleaning Company and community service students, was attended by more than 150 boys from 6 different high schools in Bahrain.
The group was supported by members from the Coast Guard, Community Police, Ministry of Health, media and environmental societies, and Muharraq Club and national football team star Mohammed Salmeen.
The volunteers, who spent more than two hours clearing the beach, were treated to a sumptuous lunch at the end of the exercise.
Another highlight of the day was a raffle draw that marked the end of the day’s program and the winners were given various prizes including laptops and digital cameras.
“We are collaborating with the government on more initiatives such as these that enable youth to promote the importance of environmental awareness,” said Aaref Hejras, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq.
With 30,000 properties planned housing for over 120,000 people, Diyar Al Muharraq’s construction is moving at a brisk fast pace with reclamation of phase 1 nearing 97 per cent completion.-TradeArabia News Service
