Labour fee $159m per year

Manama, April 18, 2009

Revenue generated by labour fees amounts to BD60 million ($159 million), per annum, said a top official of Tamkeen, Bahrain's Labour Fund.

Tamkeen spends 80 per cent of the revenue on labour market reforms, training and employment programmes and loans for companies facing crisis, vice chairman Sharif Ahmadi said.

The remaining goes to the government, Ahmadi said, stressing that small and medium-sized companies benefit from loans and financial training assistance. – Trade Arabia News Service
