Dubai authorities have promised to investigate claims that some labour camps in the city are overcrowded.

A recent BBC documentary had claimed that the labour camps were filthy and overcrowded.

Saqr Ghobash, the Minister of Labour, is looking into the “veracity” of the claims, according to a Ministry statement.

The ministry team would visit the sites and report back to the Ministry, WAM news agency said.

Meanwhile, Arabtec Holding chief executive Riad Kamal accused the BBC programme of being unfair in its reporting of the living and working conditions of workers of Arabtec Construction, a subsidiary of Arabtec Holding.

Arabtec had more than 20 camps in Dubai and Abu Dhabi which were cleaned daily, Kamal was quoted as saying in an interview with Arabian Business.

He said the company also employed a hygiene specialist who headed a team that trained workers about the importance of basic hygiene and nutrition.
