Screen actor training program to start on Feb 28

Manama, February 18, 2009

Bahrain’s first screen actor training program targeted at students of all ages will be launched on February 28, organisers said.

The program is expected to generate high interest and spur further development of the film/creative community in the kingdom, said KSDi.

Classes will be offered for children (5-12 years) teens (13-18) and adults (18+).

The classes will take place at Ahlia University on Exhibition Road in Manama in their Media Production Sound Stage.

The 15-week program will focus on screen acting techniques utilising variations of “The Method” created by Konstantin Stanislavski.  The course fee is BD375 and the language of instruction is English.

The sessions will be video taped utilising KSDI’s state-of-the-art production equipment.  The performances will then be immediately reviewed in the class on the big screen for direct feedback designed to improve the actor’s performance.  At the end of the program session, each actor will have his/her work showcased in an open house event.

Each student will graduate with a professionally edited demo reel DVD of his/her performances.

KSDI general manager and veteran Hollywood director Rick Beeman will head up the instruction of the classes.  Beeman has directed and taught hundreds of students worldwide in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Taipei, Houston, San Francisco and Saudi Arabia.

Other than becoming better actors, there are also a great many other benefits derived from participating in Screen Actor Training classes, he said. “Students build self-esteem, confidence, self-awareness, improvisational ability, and a better understanding of themselves emotionally and psychologically,” he added.

The acting school is a smaller part of the KSDi’s larger plan to develop the film industry in Bahrain, said a spokesman.

KSDi’s long term goals are to finance and produce features films in Bahrain. Beeman was very excited about the residual benefits for the actors participating in the program.  “We are going to need to create a database of talented actors so that not only we can use in our upcoming projects but other productions filming in Bahrain can use.  We are constantly on the lookout for new talent, and the classes will give us an immediate database from which to cast,” said Beeman.
