Al Gurg joins ‘Mission Green Earth’

Dubai, October 28, 2008

Staff at Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints reiterated their commitment to supporting the reduction of the UAE’s carbon-footprint by joining ‘Mission Green Earth’.

The campaign aims to focus on the need to conserve energy and water and reduce waste.

A major environmental issue facing the construction industry is the release of low-level toxic emissions into the environment following paint application due to volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the paints and coatings.

Recently, however, scientists have managed to create paint formulas with low levels of VOC in paints and coatings, and Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints are well on target to meet the 2010 European Union requirements well ahead of the deadline, said an official.

“We are building a culture of putting the environment first in everything we do,” said Sunil Gudur, chief manager, Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints.

“We have a responsibility to do what we can to build a more sustainable future, and are committed at the highest level to reduce VOC in all of our products.”

All the staff at Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints read a ‘Stand Up and Take Action’ pledge in support of the Millennium development goals which focused on creating environmental sustainability.
