Modern art museum to come up at Culture Village
Dubai, October 13, 2008
The flagship Dh50 billion ($13.6 billion) Culture Village project of Dubai Properties will house the Middle East Museum of Modern Art (Memoma), a report said.
The region's first culture museum will be shaped like an Arabian dhow, and it will be built on an island of its own in the heart of Culture Village, on Dubai Creek, according to the Gulf News report.
It will be accessible by connecting roads and two pedestrian bridges.
Injaz, the promoters of Culture Village, expect the museum to get about two million visitors every year.
Construction for the museum is likely to start in eight months.
Memoma will be spread over 438,592 sq ft and will house a 60-room hotel, restaurants and retail space to provide an all-round experience. There are also plans to include exhibition space of up to 14,000 sq m in the building.
