ECCO buys water plant for Durrat Al Bahrain

Manama, September 28, 2008

Energy Central Co (ECCO), has recently signed an agreement to purchase a containerised Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) plant from TSI Asia, to meet the initial irrigation demand at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Durrat Al Bahrain is a prestigious island based on mixed-use residential, commercial, and resort development in the south of the Kingdom with a total investment value of $4 billion.

The total capacity of this temporary plant would be 1,000 cubic metres daily with pre-treatment. TSI Asia will also be responsible for the installation and commissioning of the plant.

“This is an important development for Durrat Al Bahrain project. With the purchase of the plant we are on track in supporting Durrat’s irrigation activities,' said Khalil Issa, chief executive officer, ECCO.

“This agreement also marks our foray into Middle East market and also makes us associated with a respected regional utility provider like Energy Central and a prestigious development such as Durrat Al Bahrain,” stated Angus Gillies, managing director, TSI Asia.

Earlier this year Energy Central had signed a 25 year concession agreement with Durrat Al Bahrain to design, built and operate a sea water desalination plant serving the irrigation needs of the entire Durrat Al Bahrain. The total capacity of the plant will be in excess of 30,000 cubic metres daily.
