Talk by Rolex Award winner in Oman

Dubai, September 17, 2008

The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) and the Rolex Awards for Enterprise will host a lecture by British zoologist Rory Wilson, creator of the world’s first cross-species logger system for wild animals.

The lecture will be held in Muscat on September 20.

Wilson, who won a Rolex Award, one of the world’s most prestigious philanthropic awards, in 2006 for developing the revolutionary tracking system, will speak about its development, its success with mammals, birds and fish in diverse environments, and recent testing on the Arabian leopard in Oman.

Wilson’s lightweight, miniaturized tracking device has been compared to the ‘black box’ flight recorder.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise provided the support needed to develop and test Wilson’s revolutionary invention.

For the first time in the programme’s 32-year history, the Rolex Awards will be presented in the Middle East this year – at a ceremony in Dubai on November 18.-TradeArabia News Service
