Dubai Outsource Zone opts for solar lights
Dubai, September 9, 2008
Dubai Outsource Zone (DOZ), the first dedicated zone for the outsourcing industry and a member of Tecom Investments, has adopted solar photovoltaic (SPV) technology for its car park, making the premises carbon neutral with zero energy cost.
DOZ opted for the GRENlite technology to resolve the phenomenal challenge of lighting as extending conventional electrical cables to the car park area would have led to a significant jump in installation costs.
The solution was recommended by Tecom Investments’ Sustainable Energy and Environment Division (Seed). It was implemented by PTLSolar, a pioneering solar products and solutions provider in the Middle East and Africa, and a leading business partner of Tecom’s Energy and Environment Park (Enpark).
“As a responsible master developer, we are proud to adopt a sustainable solution that will not only provide the most suitable environment for our business partners, but also contribute to generating considerable benefits to future generations. The solar power solution for the car park is only the first step in a series of green-friendly measures envisaged for the outsourcing park,' said Ismail Al Naqi, executive director of DOZ.
“The Dubai Outsource Zone has already implemented a Water Conservation Programme and is in the process of initiating Seed’s Energy Conservation Programme with our business partners.”
The solar-powered car park lights are completely integrated, self-contained, waterproof and compact. Offering high performance, the lights are field-proven to provide reliable round-the-clock operation with no scheduled maintenance for up to five years.
“Tecom’s sustainable development policy aims to create a market for clean technology projects that will reduce our carbon footprint. Today, with the help of our business partners we are executing projects that will take us forward in our sustainability drive. We are privileged to implement the project with PTLSolar, leaders in green technology and our business partner at Enpark,' said Ali bin Towaih, executive director of Seed and Enpark.
Last year, Enpark in partnership with Green Energy Solar (gesolar), installed two solar-powered street lights at Dubai Internet City (DIC), one of the world’s largest managed ICT cluster and a member of Tecom Investments, in a step to promote and demonstrate sustainable solutions and an environment-friendly lifestyle in Dubai.-TradeArabia News Service
