Du to develop web portal for UAE NGOs
Dubai, August 24, 2008
The UAE Ministry of Social Affairs said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with du, the integrated telecom operator in the UAE, to establish a comprehensive web-portal of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country.
The MoU was signed by Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi, general director in the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs and Osman Sultan, CEO du at the ministry offices in the presence of Maryam Mohd Khalfan Al Romi, Minister of Social Affairs, UAE.
Besides acting as a comprehensive source of factual information on all the non-governmental organisations in the UAE, the proposed web portal will showcase the work of each organisation. It will also facilitate volunteering in the UAE by presenting all the available opportunities on one platform.
The pioneering initiative is part of du's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to create sustainable and economically empowering initiatives throughout the UAE.
Osman Sultan, CEO, du, said: 'We are proud to be contributing to this initiative by creating an interactive web portal for the ministry, utilising our technical expertise to enable the NGOs to communicate effectively. This
invaluable tool will enable NGOs to support nation-building efforts and community building.'
Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi, said: 'There was a long-felt need to create an integrated platform for all NGOs in the country and foster volunteerism. We commend du's proactive steps in taking this objective forward and look forward to working with them closely in this endeavour.' - TradeArabia News Service
