Record rush for media courses
Dubai, July 12, 2008
The world’s largest audio and creative media educator is seeing a record rush at its Dubai campus due to a growing interest in media-related careers among youngsters in the region.
SAE Institute said admissions for the autumn 2008 semester had reached two-thirds capacity three months ahead of the admissions deadline.
The record number of applications represents a significant increase over last year, which saw the institute add a December intake in addition to the autumn entries to accommodate demand, it said.
“People have started to realise that they can pursue something they love and make it a career,” associate regional director for Asia and Middle East Alexander Gehrig said.
The sizeable investments that have been made in the UAE recently by massive entertainment companies like Universal Studios and Time Warner mean that the film industry is here to stay, and that there are a number of interesting and viable career paths in that sector, he pointed out.
The institute frequently invites industry leaders to share their expertise with students at the Knowledge Village campus. It recently hosted Oscar-winning film director Eugenio Cappuccio in an exclusive session on feature films highlighting the potential impact of new technologies and production techniques on the cinema industry.
Cappuccio is scheduled to lead a series of master classes in the autumn academic session this year.
SAE Institute offers training in the fields of filmmaking, 3D animation, multimedia and web designing, as well as audio engineering. It has centres in 50 cities and 23 countries with headquarters in Oxford England. – Trade Arabia News Service
