Giant kaleidoscope planned in Bahrain
Manama, May 8, 2008
English sculptor and managing director of UK-based Brilliant Adventures Nick Moore wants to build a giant pyramid kaleidoscope in Bahrain to bring peace to the region.
He believes that his company's kaleidoscopes bring a feeling of peace to people when they look into them and believes Bahrain, as an oasis of peace in the middle of a region of conflict, could play a role in calming turbulence with such a structure.
It was an idea he put to Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who visited his stand on the opening day of gulfBID 2008 and he claims the government is showing an interest.
He already has large models of his kaleidoscopes in the foyers of a number of corporate offices in the UK and one in the British Museum of Ecology.
But the one he envisages for Bahrain would be big enough to have 100 people stand underneath it.
As well as kaleidoscopes his company also makes infinity candles, which burn for rather a long time and he decided to use gulfBID as an entry into the Middle East market after he saw interest in his products from Saudi.
"I was doing a show in England when a Saudi princess, who was in a wheelchair, and her entourage stopped at my stand," he said.
"One of her companions came and asked the price for an infinity candle then went back and informed the princess of the cost. The aide then returned and said they wanted to make a purchase. I was about to wrap one up when I was asked how many I had. I then got an order for all of them."
He said that was when he decided to make a move on the Middle East market and decided gulfBID was the perfect place to test the market.-TradeArabia News Service
