Belden launches new optic cables
Dubai, March 26, 2008
Belden, a leader in design, manufacture and marketing of signal transmission products, has launched a new range of tactical fiber optic cables that are designed to meet the demand for smaller and lighter weight equipment.
The key advantages of the new cables include superior bend performance, better pulling tension, low memory effect, ease of termination, excellent impact and crush resistance, plus abrasion, cut and chemical resistance, said an official spokesman.
The new tactical fiber optic cables can also be easily transported and quickly installed and can overcome common field deployment problems when covering outdoor events.
Using, transporting and deploying the smaller, lighter and more resilient tactical cables offers many benefits for installers, as the compact round cables take up less space, weigh less and installation is quicker and easier.
Their ruggedness, resilience and toughness mean that they can be repeatedly used without compromising their high quality performance; and they are compatible with all optical fiber connector types.
The superior bend performance means very low bending loss across the full useable spectrum of wavelengths from 1260 to 1625nm. The fibers can be coiled into a 32mm diameter loop, which is 25 times better than conventional single-mode fibers, and also a 20mm diameter loop which with <0.2dB is still 2.5 times better than G.652.
The cables can be used in temperatures as low as -70°C because of improved micro and macro bending of the bend-insensitive fiber. It has Zero Water Peak (ZWP) as the first fiber eliminates the water peak defect that is common in conventional single-mode fibers.
It also has good splicing compatibility, which reduces installation time, because the fiber ensures seamless splicing to existing standard G.652 fibers.
“As a result, they have a smaller bend radius capability, improved flexibility and resilience (cable memory) over a broad range of outdoor temperatures and weather conditions. They are ideal for use in digital camera transmissions, electronic news gathering and OB vehicles and similar events,” said Belden EMEA entertainment market manager Werner Eich.
The new cables are constructed with extremely strong, rugged and survivable tight-buffered single-mode fibers to give maximum performance and reliability. They feature a very strong aramid yarn strength member core-bonded to a jacket made from exceptionally tough, sunlight and chemical resistant polyurethane.
The jacket is also flame retardant and highly resistant to abrasion, crushing and cut-through.
This unique construction creates a cable core and jacket which act together as one unit and simplify installation. For severe bends, this means the outer jacket will retain the round shape of the cable and keep the internal cable elements in place.
This provides localised bend limits and avoids any wrinkling of the cable’s outer jacket. It also helps to resist tearing and prevent subsequent damage. The core-bonded outer jacket has a polyester ripcord which opens easily to provide fast access to the tightly buffered fibers.
The cables are available in six standard product codes, with up to 12 fibers. The new ITU G.657.A fiber design delivers a bend-insensitive fiber to enable smaller fiber management. To meet a wide variety of applications, special options include fiber count and type as well as jacket color and material. – TradeArabia News Service
