Hotbrands International (HBI), one of the fastest growing food services companies in the region, has announced the appointment of Robert Schmitz as the new chief operating officer (COO).
Dubai-based Hotbrands markets a unique range of ethnic restaurant concepts in both quick service restaurant (QSR) and casual dining restaurant (CDR) formats.
Currently, these concepts include Indian, Chinese, Italian, Thai and Japanese cuisines. The company is poised to enter new markets, both within the region and outside, in addition to its current locations in India, Middle East and South Africa, said a top official.
Commenting on the new appointment, Avinash Bal, HBI vice chairman and CEO, said Schmitz, who has three decades of experience in the hospitality sector, would be responsible for growing the CDR portfolio, as part of the company’s strategic expansion plans across the GCC and international markets.
'Schmitz has an intimate knowledge and understanding of our industry and the competitive landscape in which we operate. I am confident that his expertise and extensive knowledge will further enhance the professional services provided by HBI to its customers and stakeholders”.
'Hotbrands International has set its sights on expansion in the region and plans to enter new markets internationally. The appointment of Schmitz comes at a time when the company is realigning itself to be a customer-driven organisation,' Bal observed.
An effective communicator and a food aficionado, he brings to the company diverse insights into the F&B industry from around the globe.
Prior to this new assignment, he was the general manager of Sultan Group Hospitality in Dubai, where he developed the strategic growth strategies and policies of the hospitality division.
Speaking about his appointment, Schmitz said: “Our strategy is to leverage our dynamic business model, as we seek growth opportunities in the marketplace.
