Acciona inks desalination deals
Madrid, August 6, 2007
Acciona's water unit has signed two new concession deals to treat water in the UAE and in Algeria, the Spanish power-to-services company said.
In a statement, Acciona said it had a contract to build a desalination plant in Algeria with Canadian firm Lavalin and the Algerian Energy Company and then operate it for 25 years.
Acciona said the plant would cost 133.8 million euros ($183.4 million) to build and that the operating contract should be worth 579 million euros. The deal is being 80-per cent financed by Algeria's Credit Populaire.
In the UAE, Acciona said it would build a desalination plant and operate it for 10 years in a joint deal with local partners. It gave no value for that deal.
