DIFF365 launches year-long drive of comedy films
DUBAI, July 23, 2017
Du-powered DIFF365@VOX has launched a year-long initiative featuring cuddle comedy films starting with Andrew Rossi’s fashion-themed non-fiction “The First Monday in May”.
“Brigsby Bear” is Saturday Night Live’s (SNL) Dave McCary’s debut feature starring his childhood friend and colleague at SNL, Kyle Mooney, along with famed voice and film actor Mark Hamill.
The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it was applauded for its insightful examination of the young generation’s obsession with pop culture and the deep feeling of loss that can occur when those formative pieces of entertainment are removed. Additionally, it was also chosen as 2017 Cannes Critics Week closing film.
Director Dave McCary and Kyle Mooney have been friends since high school where the duo founded Los Angeles-based sketch comedy group ‘Good Neighbour’ after their graduation, which due to its popularity led to them joining the renowned weekly-comedy sketch giant Saturday Night Live. Continuing the wealth of comedic talent, the quirky comedy is also produced by SNL-alum Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island trio alongside the writer-directors of The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
“Brigsby Bear” revolves around James, a 25-year old man who spent his entire life with his parents in a bunker and grew up watching the TV series The Adventures of Brigsby Bear, an educational family program with a deep mythology. Taking audiences deep into the world of the underground bunker and, through unique design work, inside the heart of Brigsby’s adventure, they follow James as the show unexpectedly ends, leaving him facing a brave new world of without the Adventures to rely on.
“Brigsby Bear” will screen exclusively to DIFF 365@VOX at the dedicated theatre (cinema 9) at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai from July 27 until August 9.
The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is the leading film festival in the Middle East and Africa. Since its inception in 2004, the festival has served as an influential platform for Arab filmmakers and talent at an international level by spearheading the cinema movement in the region. The 14th edition of DIFF will take place from 6 to 13 December. – TradeArabia News Service
