Bus stops, walls and public buildings in the Northern Governorate of Bahrain are being transformed into works of art with the help of colourful mosaics, a report said.

Designed by a group of artists calling themselves 'Art Rich', the initiative is part of a beautification project being spearheaded by the Northern Municipality, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

'This idea to use mosaics was presented to us by Art Rich '“ a group of artists and designers who want to promote art as a lifestyle within the community,' said municipality director-general Yousif Al Ghatam.

'We suggested that the best way to showcase their unique art would be to start with public facilities such as bus stops and stations, walls and other buildings.

'Work began with new bus stops on the Budaiya Highway and numerous private schools have offered their services to support us in the scheme.

'The huge volunteer response reflects people's willingness to showcase their creativity in a civilised manner that would in the end help beautify Bahrain.'

Al Ghatam said that arrangements were now being made to expand the scheme to other locations around the Northern Governorate such as public parks in Shakhoora, Janabiya and Hamad Town as well as the beach at Budaiya.

Northern Parks Friends president Juma Al Shakhoori said the scheme would help public spaces stay colourful all year round.

'When we heard about this idea, we were immediately in favour of it for public parks, beaches and walkways because it is something different from the regular graffiti or wall painting,' he said.

Decorations

'It would also be good to have new colours other than the regular green in our facilities, and we have already gathered parks friends to help with the scheme. At first, statues and monuments could be decorated and then guardrooms, toilets and fences decorated.

'Why not if possible even the rides and benches, if it would make them beautiful as the bus stations?’ – TradeArabia News Service
