New Qatar project to beef up electronic security

DOHA, June 1, 2016

Qatar has launched the first phase of the electronic security shield project at the headquarters of the National Command Centre, a report said.

Inaugurated by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the project aims to enhance the level of electronic security in Qatar and enhance IT infrastructure and electronic network protection, reported Gulf Times.

It will assist Qatar’s institutions and bodies and protect its IT infrastructure against electronic security threats as well as aid in providing training and consultancy relating to electronic security.

Tasks include surveillance of IT infrastructure in different government agencies and institutions to detect and analyse cyber threats as well as respond to cyber incidents and enhance access to cybersecurity status quo in the country, in addition to building expertise and specialised Qatari personnel, the report said.

It will also co-operate with international partners and exchange information on cyber threats and respond to incidents that require co-ordination at the global level, according to the report.
