Commvault introduces new data management system
Las Vegas, USA, March 1, 2016
American information management firm Commvault recently unveiled the Commvault Clinical Archive, designed to help healthcare organisations better manage and share clinical data.
The new product centralises information by breaking down data silos and enables better data sharing. It reduces storage costs and eliminates the costs of maintaining and supporting legacy applications such as picture archiving and communication systems (Pacs), said a company statement.
Developed out of collaboration between Commvault and Laitek, a designer of rapid data migration and storage services for Pacs replacements, the system is the first solution that can address data management in both the clinical and business sides of healthcare in a single platform, revealed the statement.
Users can decommission legacy Pacs solutions into a single data management platform, while making legacy studies accessible to new Pacs solutions and available for bulk migration. Specifically, data is extracted from legacy Pacs in its original format, normalized and migrated into the clinical archive in a standard format for interoperability and then stored for future use.
The hardware-independent nature of Commvault’s platform supports a full range of cloud, on premise, physical and virtual environments, to fit each healthcare organization’s business and patient care needs, the statement added.
“Healthcare customers are facing many pressures to modernize data management strategies, reduce costs and increase efficiencies,” said N. Robert Hammer, chairman, president and CEO of Commvault. “Retiring legacy PACS and managing clinical data across multiple vendor silos are increasingly becoming frustrating challenges for healthcare IT teams, and our new solution supported by Laitek’s technology will help healthcare organizations better manage, control and protect clinical data while also benefiting from our proven approach to overall data management.”
“Commvault’s comprehensive solutions for enterprise data management readily support clinical data objects such as documents and images, providing a managed enterprise platform for archiving and distribution of patient information as well as related business records,” said Fred M. Behlen, founder and CEO of Laitek. “By incorporating technology from Laitek, Commvault is delivering a much needed clinical archiving solution that will help today’s healthcare providers meet complex data management challenges and improve patient care.”
The announcement was made at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference 2016, in Las Vegas, where this year’s theme is “Transforming Health through IT”. -TradeArabia News Service
