Asiacell, Ericsson partner in network deal

BAGHDAD, February 28, 2016

Asiacell, a leading telecom operator in Iraq has teamed up with Ericsson to transform Asiacell’s transmission backbone infrastructure in the country, a report said.

With this, Asiacell will secure the technology and capacity to cater for the increased demand for data traffic in the coming five years, reported Iraq Business News, citing Telecompaper.

Ericsson’s Mini-Link LH provides very high capacities and offers a smooth migration to packet transport, the report said, adding that the tie-up will have a major impact on the end user experience once demand on data picks up after Asiacell’s 3G launch in 2015.

The project is swapping out TDM MW-Backbone with Ericsson Mini-Link LH to support IPBB/IP-MPLS to ensure Gigabit capacities over one antenna, high quality of services and network evolution towards all-IP, according to the report.
