Mobinil, Ericsson launch packet core network in Egypt
CAIRO, June 14, 2015
Egyptian operator Mobinil has successfully launched a modernised packet core network based on Ericsson’s Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solution, enabling its customers to enjoy cost-effective, reliable broadband services.
Originally conceived in August last year as part of a five-year framework agreement between the two companies, the project was completed in a record time of just six weeks.
With half of Egypt’s current population under the age of 35, demand for mobile-broadband services is already high and continues to rise. The strategic decision to modernize Mobinil’s mobile packet core has been perfectly timed to deal with this growing demand, said a statement from Mobinil.
The speed and success of this joint achievement has further enhanced the excellent relationship that already exists between Mobinil and Ericsson, it stated.
Mobinil CEO Yves Gauthier said: "It is our commitment to ensure that our customers benefit from the highest quality and experience, Ericsson is our partner for that in Egypt and the packet core network modernization is an important milestone in providing the best customer’s experience."
Mobinil chief technology officer Yasser Shaker said: "This latest upgrade of our packet core network is an anticipatory move in light of our expanding customer base and its long-term sustainability. Our continuous investment in our infrastructure is a testament to our continued commitment to our customers."
"We aim to provide them with the highest-quality services at high speeds throughout Egypt, and that’s why we’ve chosen Ericsson to be our partner," he added.
Ericsson (Middle East and North East Africa) president Rafiah Ibrahim said: "By transforming Mobinil’s packet core technology, we are spurring an increasingly networked society in Egypt. We believe this will enable Mobinil to provide their customers with improved network speeds and delivery of service."
"Our continued partnership with Mobinil has allowed the operator to evolve its network and continue to provide users with innovative products and services of superior quality," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
