UAE’s General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) hosted a coordination meeting at its Dubai headquarters, where many government entities participated with their projects, positioning them as candidates for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Awards.

The award will be announced during the gala to take place on May 26 at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting was aimed at harmonising efforts between the various government entities, in order to ensure additional public awareness on how they can vote for all the categories of the nation’s nominated projects.

During the meeting, a media plan was proposed by the National Committee to follow up on the implementation of recommendations by WSIS, provide commentary, ideas and suggestions, in addition to the exchange of ideas by the attendants.

The discussions focused on a single goal that was set to ensure the largest number of national projects winning at the global forum.
 
Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA director general, said: “The WSIS National Committee was founded in the UAE according to the mission and vision of a strategy aimed at strengthening the country's position on the global level.

“The TRA plays a leadership role, defining to governmental authorities the importance of the summit and their awards, granted in various fields, as well as coordinating efforts with respect to nomination mechanisms to guarantee winning the largest number of awards.”
 
“We have seen in this meeting, as what was showcased in previous related efforts, attention to teamwork between government agencies. When any of the UAE’s projects is submitted to the World Summit Awards, it is considered a win for all of us and a step towards achieving the national vision that aims to consolidate the prominent position of our beloved country in the world, especially in areas related to society and knowledge economy,” Al Mansouri added.
 
The WSIS Awards 2015 is a platform to identify and highlight successful experiences and distinct examples to support and empower the local community. - TradeArabia News Service
