Huawei 'is banking on 4.5G business blueprint'
MANAMA, March 27, 2015
Chinese technology major Huawei has a 4.5G ‘business blueprint’ supporting Bahraini telecom operators in extending high-speed connectivity to the public, the company's top official has said.
Huawei Bahrain general manager Feng Nan told the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication, that the new 4.5G vision is a natural evolution of current LTE networks and supports fresh business opportunities through the enhancement of mobile network's capacity and capability.
"This can help support government plans to move more public services into an all-online world, with ultra-high speed connections and low latency allowing all of us to be fully prepared for the large-scale arrival of applications within the Internet of Everything," he said.
According to Nan, with the right information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure now in place, the real opportunity lies within verticals like telecommunications, oil and gas, education, health care and transportation - and how they can leverage this new architecture to operate more efficiently and intelligently in the digital era.
"To realise this transformation, information and communication networks will need to become both broader and smarter."
This means more innovation being driven with the Bahraini end user in mind - not just the technology," he said.
The ICT industry as such is now moving towards more open standards, operations and ecosystems, through which the full industry chain will become a powerful engine driving the advancement of other industries.
Nan believes the rapid development of the mobile Internet has significantly changed user behaviours in Bahrain and around the world.
"The way that people consume information today is marked by five fundamental characteristics: Real-time, On-demand, All-online, Do-it-Yourself, and Social; or ROADS in short.
"This evolution of consumer behaviours will involve the ICT sector shifting away from its traditional "network-operation" mindset and prioritising user experiences in order to effectively capture the opportunities posed by the mobile Internet," he said. - TradeArabia News Service
