UAE mGovernment showcases ‘smart wallet’ app

DUBAI, October 13, 2014

UAE’s mGovernment is showcasing a series of practical demonstrations that can be accessed through the Trusted Security Manager (TSM) department’s National Smart Wallet application at the ongoing Gitex Technology Week.

The app was developed as part of the mGovernment initiative to enhance lives and progress the UAE into a smart nation, said a statement.

TSM plays a critical role in the mobile sector, through providing constant data security, especially for transmission of sensitive information that occurs between involved parties during business procedures, it said.

The same level of data protection is applied during the process of identity authentication for a variety of other operations.

Under the theme of ‘a journey towards mGoverment’, the TSM team showcased the application’s capabilities of performing a series of tasks and financial transactions using solely a smart device.

A visitor to the UAE can use the National Smart Application, which stores identity information, to access eGates in the nation’s airports, pay for public transport and at supermarkets, as well as gaining entry to reserved hotel rooms.

The app has been backed by the Emirates ID, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), eDirham services and the UAE Banks Federation (UBF).

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, director general of UAE mGovernment, said: “By taking the guests through a journey of how the application can enhance the practicality of everyday functions, the staff truly showcased the capabilities of the National Smart Wallet app. This technological growth further attests the UAE’s progression towards a smart nation.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with a number of governmental organisations, both on the local and national level. With Emirates ID, RTA, eDirham and UBF,  the National Smart Wallet initiative is an example of the solid will and determination of our leadership in advancing the nation as a whole in order to improve the lives of everyone in it.”

The Trusted Security Manager shows the vital need for practical and quick solutions to reduce the public’s heavy reliance on paper bills. This is an attempt to diminish the impact of paper waste on the environment, to help with its conservation. - TradeArabia News Service
