Huawei deploys LAN at Thumbay hospitals

Dubai, July 2, 2014

Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, has completed a Local Area Network (LAN) deployment for UAE based Thumbay Group, allowing for it to provide a network across its range of hospitals across the Emirates.

Thumbay Group, an international business conglomerate of companies, focusing mainly in the healthcare sector, commissioned Huawei to develop a LAN network that would link its four UAE GMC Hospitals. This network has connected its four hospitals in Ajman, Fujairah, Dubai and Sharjah with the aim of providing better and faster services for its patients, and reducing operational costs.

As a result of the network deployment based on LAN, Firewalls and Ethernet switches, Huawei’s technology solution has already significantly reduced the hospital’s network downtime by over 70 per cent and increased its performance across the hospitals by over 25 per cent, a statement said.

Vignesh Unadkat, director of IT & Promotions from Thumbay Group said: “The immediate results from deploying Huawei’s Local Area Network (LAN) at our hospitals across the country have been remarkable. With a quickly expanding number of hospitals, we identified a need to ensure that we had the right network systems in place to help provide a more efficient and effective platform for the hospital administrative staff to run their operations on.”

“It was important that we were able to provide a backbone infrastructure so that ultimately, our patients felt their experience at our hospitals were comfortable and that our hospital staff were able to provide a reliable service that met their expectations.”

Following the successful LAN solution, hospital staff have been able to give faster delivery time and improve customer services. Getting access to patient records for instance, was much quicker, allowing for doctors, nurses and consultants to be kept up to speed on the patient’s profile and medical history.

Sufian Dweik, vice president, from Huawei, Enterprise in the UAE said: “The team at Huawei is committed to developing its experience within the healthcare sector in the Middle East. We understand the challenges that hospitals face and can advise on the best technology solutions that will address their needs.

“Deploying a LAN network for the Thumbay’s hospitals was the most appropriate solution as we had the confidence that our team could assess and implement the technology quickly and effectively – ensuring there was minimal service interruption in an industry that is about saving lives.”

Based on a user-friendly interface, the IT team at Thumbay is able to configure the network quickly centrally across the four hospitals, enabling medical administrative staff the means to perform more effectively and productively in their daily operations, according to the statement.

“Huawei’s quick assessment of our systems and effective deployment strategy ensured that the new solutions was up and running in under four months, an impressive achievement for such a large scale project. We look forward to working with the team again in the future,” said Unadkat. – TradeArabia News Service
