Nawras starts network upgrade in southern Oman
Muscat, April 30, 2014
Nawras, a leading telecom provider in Oman and an Ooredoo company, has begun transforming the existing network to a fully turbocharged network in the southern regions of the Sultanate.
Salalah customers are going to be the first among the southern regions customers accessing to fantastic Nawras fast and superfast mobile broadband network. The early part of the programme in 2014 was to upgrade sites in Bruaimi, Dank, Ibri, Yanqul, Nakhal and Rustaq, as part of the North Oman modernisation phase.
The first phase, South Oman, includes Salalah, Mirbat, Taqah and Al Mughsail. All of these areas are being upgraded with access to doubled 3G+ network capacity, increased voice and data services and a significant improvement to the overall coverage in these areas.
Wolfgang Wemhoff, chief technology officer at Nawras said: “These transformations in the Nawras network make a noticeable difference to customers while they are browsing or using voice and, in particular, data services, in terms of speed and extent of access.
“For example, customers who are video streaming will notice high definition content downloading with no buffering or delay within the modernised areas, giving them a much faster and better data experience.”
The next step will be to activate the third 3G+ carrier on the 900 MHz band within abovementioned turbocharged areas.
As a result, this boosts indoor 3G+ quality and coverage for customers in larger buildings or offices. In addition, customers who previously only had access to 2G networks in the above areas, will soon be able to access Nawras’ fast mobile broadband network (3G+). Work on this is already underway and will be completed in a few weeks.
In addition to transforming the mobile broadband network, Nawras has extensive plans to provide the superfast 4G experience to customers across the city of Salalah, which currently has a number of sites already activated with 4G.
Nawras 4G provides customers an amazingly fast online experience, with almost no waiting time for page loading, downloads, video and music streaming and online gaming. These services are already available across the city of Muscat and Sohar and daily expansions are on-going.
There are plans to expand the 4G network to other areas of the country during the remainder of the year, a company statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
