Nawras offers new public wifi hotspots

Muscat, November 17, 2013

Oman’s telecom operator Nawras is offering customers free and fast wifi access in two new public hotspots, in association with Muscat Municipality.

As part of Oman’s 43rd National Day celebration, Mutrah’s Corniche next to the traditional Souq area, and Al Sahwa Parks in Mawaleh, will now provide customers with up to two hours of free internet daily, using any wifi enabled device.

Mazin Habib Al-Muaini, Nawras wifi product manager, said: “Nawras free wifi offers flexible connectivity for customers on the go. The hotspots will benefit businesses, visitors and tourists as the demand for high quality mobile broadband increases. Customers want to continue enjoying broadband access while out and about, whether to keep in contact with the office, browse the internet for nearby amenities and attractions, or connect to friends through social media.”

“Our introduction of free wifi zones began at Muscat Grand Mall (MGM). It went on to become a permanent offer, courtesy of the MGM management, to provide shoppers and diners with up to one hour of free wifi throughout the mall. This made MGM the first in Oman to offer free wifi powered by Nawras, to all of its visitors on a permanent basis.”

Customers can access the two new free Nawras hotspots by selecting ‘NawrasFreeWiFi’ from the list of available networks and following the instructions on the browser’s landing page using any WiFi enabled smartphone, tablet device or laptop.

Customers can also purchase additional WiFi time to extend their service by selecting ‘NawrasWiFi’ and registering on the landing page using a valid mobile number. Once a convenient package and method of payment are chosen, customers will receive a confirmation message with a unique authentication code and an SMS containing their username and password. These details can also be retained for future visits to Nawras wifi hotspots.

The rollout of the wifi hotspots programme will include additional public areas in the near future to increase internet penetration and provide more communities with broadband services. - TradeArabia News Service
