Abu Dhabi, February 5, 2012
Volunteers for Etisalat’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Ayaadi, recently held a one-day event called ‘Envirocare Day’, which was dedicated to supporting the environment.
The event which was held at Mushrif Park in Dubai, was also attended by Omar bin Huraiz, chairman of the board of trustees of Ayaadi and Ali Al Ahmed, chief corporate communications officer for Etisalat.
Volunteers completed a number of environmentally-friendly activities, such as setting Francolin birds free and planting seeds of endangered ghaf trees, both considered a significant part of the UAE’s culture and history.
Amal Alkoos, fund director, said: “The Envirocare Day initiative is a practical application of the wise UAE leadership’s directives to preserve wildlife, maintain its natural resources, and while simultaneously promoting eco-tourism activities and protecting the environment.”
“This initiative falls under the UAE’s long term strategy to build a green economy, under the slogan ‘A green economy for sustainable development’, which was launched last month by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” he said.
Environment Day initiative is a means of giving back to UAE’s wildlife, and encouraging the public to participate in volunteering, he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
