Qtel Group receives four major awards

Doha, December 7, 2011

Qtel Group received four major awards at the CommsMEA Award Ceremony held in Dubai last week including ‘Best business Service’ and ‘Middle East Operator of the Year’.

The event was attended by more than 250 executives from the Middle East and Africa's telecoms sector.

CommsMEA Awards recognises those organisations that are pushing the boundaries and helping to transform the communications sector in the Middle East and Africa, a statement from the company said.

Qtel won in the ‘Best Business Service’ category due to its broad range of specialist solutions, in particular the range of dedicated services for small and medium enterprises. The company has also upgraded its already successful ‘Office in a Box’ service with specialised marketing and financial tools, offering a seamless package with considerable savings for the customer.

Nawras of Oman, a Qtel Group company, received the ‘Operational Expansion of the Year’ award following the successful launch of fixed line services in the Sultanate, the statement said.

Wataniya, also a unit of Qtel, picked up the accolade for ‘Middle East Operator of the Year’, while Algerian operator Nedjma won ‘African Operator of the Year’.

This year saw more than 80 entries submitted across the 16 categories with winners selected by a panel of international judges, it said.

Qtel has grown from a one-country operator in 2005 to becoming a leading telecommunications company in the region. It has seen its customer base increase from a half million customers in 2005 to a consolidated customer base of 82.4 million by September 2011. – TradeArabia News Service
