Smartphones constitute 41.6 per cent of total cellular handsets in Jordan, according to a recent survey.
The new Arab Advisors Group’s survey of cellular users in Jordan reveals insightful details on the smartphones adoption and usage patterns in the kingdom.
Symbian leads with 62 per cent share of smartphones operating systems in the country, it said. iOS and Blackberry share the second place while Android came in third. Smartphone users also prefer the English language for their applications, it said.
The survey report, “Jordan Smartphone Survey 2011” was released on August 2 and provides the results of the study conducted in July 2011.
The survey covered general cellular usage habits; smartphone adoption and usage habits; smartphone awareness, cellular handsets’ brands and models in addition to tablets availability among respondents. The report has 84 pages and 97 exhibits.
“The survey revealed that 95.8 per cent and 87.5 per cent of iPhone and Blackberry users, respectively, use applications through their smartphones, while 57 per cent of Symbian smartphone users use applications. 91.4 per cent of those who use applications prefer the applications in the English language, where only 8.2 per cent of the respondents prefer the Arabic language,” said Faten Bader, Arab Advisors senior research analyst.
"The survey also probed the tablets available among the cellular users. The survey revealed amongst houses that have tablets, Apple’s iPad leads by a wide margin,” she added.
Survey respondents were called through a randomly generated table of cellular phone numbers for each cellular operator. The survey results encompass answers from 750 cellular users that passed rigorous quality control checks. Quality control was conducted by Arab Advisors Group’s team. The survey yields a confidence level of 99 per cent with a margin of error of less than 5 per cent, the group said.
