Zain to start tweets-via-SMS service

Manama, June 4, 2011

Zain Bahrain said it has tied up with top social networking site Twitter to enable its customers to interact with their twitter accounts via SMS and send tweets.

To sign up for this unique Twitter-via-SMS service, the Zainers (who already have a Twitter account) can access it from their phones using SMS or website, mobile.twitter.com or can visit twitter.com to create an account or to add mobile device to an account previously created.

Since Twitter is a free service, Zain Bahrain will be charging 30 fils per SMS sent, receiving is free, said a Zain statement.

“A mobile phone today is a lifestyle tool and not just an instrument you use to talk on,” said Pakiza Abdulrahman, manager, Value-Added Services & Mobile Data  for Zain Bahrain.

'Zain Bahrain is continuously adding new and exciting features to its mobile services so that customers can get maximum value from their Zain experience,' he noted.

'Simply send a text to your Twitter code (98555) with the word START and Twitter will reply, asking you to sign up if you’re new or respond with your username if you already have an account. Users have to send username and password and “OK” if you want to use Twitter on your phone.'

'Once you’re set, you can send messages to your Twitter code and they will be posted as tweets on your Twitter profile. You can also receive others’ tweets by turning on mobile updates for those whose tweets you wish to see on your phone.'

You can also follow a friend or mark a friend’s update as a favorite by using a designated Twitter command. There are other phone commands that will make your Twitter-on-SMS experience even more exciting and put a great deal of fun into your Twitter-via-mobile experience.

According to Pakiza, this tie-up with Twitter is one of the many useful extra features for Zainers to tweet on the go in the Kingdom or while roaming even where Wifi connections aren’t available,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
