Zain Jordan launches high speed broadband services

Amman, March 26, 2011

Zain Jordan said it has successfully launched its high-speed broadband services adopting the HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) technology provided by Huawei.

The network covers 97 per cent of the populated areas in Jordan and around 1,000 stations have been installed in several parts of the Kingdom utilizing this technology, said a statement from Zain Jordan.

Dr Abdul Malek Al Jaber, COO of Zain Group and CEO of Zain Jordan, said the firm has invested JD120 million last year to deploy the HSPA+ network in order to provide the high-speed and best-in-class broadband services to its subscribers in 2011.

He said the new HSPA+ network will provide high-speed internet data services of up to 21 Megabits per second (Mbps) upon launch and in the future up to 42 Mbps.

“Choosing Huawei comes as a continuation to our strategic relationship which began several years back and had great impact on the company's strategy to upgrade the telecommunications sector in Jordan and enhance our leading position within the telecommunications category locally and regionally, Al Jaber remarked.

Al Jaber emphasized on Zain's confidence in Huawei’s innovative solutions and comprehensive applications and Zain’s eagerness to further develop this relationship and take it to broader horizons.

'With the high-speed internet connectivity, people in Jordan will soon be able to enjoy a diversified bunch of broadband services such as videoconferencing, digital TV which allows them to view films and video clips either upon demand or live from TV channels (Mobile TV).'

According to him, the new technology enables high upload and download speeds and seamless mobility.

“Our target is to reach 500,000 users of the technology by the end of 2012. As the services also cover remote areas in Jordan where people had no access to internet services before, we expect the internet penetration in the country to increase eventually with the provision of our rich broadband service,” Al Jaber added.

Yi Xiang, president of Middle East Region, Huawei, said, 'We are delighted to work with our operator partner to bring the most exciting mobile broadband experience to people in Jordan.'

'At Huawei, we believe that it is our customer-oriented innovation that has assisted our customer to achieve on-going business success in this competitive mobile broadband market.” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
